About us

Since 2007 Design London has been an international centre for interdisciplinary innovation offering postgraduate teaching and executive education, research and incubating new interdisciplinary businesses.

A collaboration between RCA and Imperial College London, with a remit to develop, teach, research, and deliver radical new practices, tools and processes that transform the way organisations innovate, and help them translate their creativity into commercial success. From 2011, its much expanded academic and business incubation programmes will become embedded in the core activities of the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London, and a new interdisciplinary Masters in Service Design is being launched by the RCA in association with Imperial.

As the project enters its fifth year the interdisciplinary programmes are now embedded in the core activities of both institutions with new courses, an expanded programme for business incubation, and the Design London Fellowships. The Fellowship programme enables students and researchers from both institutions to participate in the academic programmes and projects of the other and benefit from a truly interdisciplinary educational experience.

The RCA and Imperial collaboration, accelerated by Design London, brings together creativity and expertise in design from the Royal College of Art, technological innovation from Imperial College's Faculty of Engineering and entrepreneurship and business acumen from Imperial College Business School. Its continuing goal is to create the next generation of designer entrepreneurs and business innovators who will act as agents of change in our economy and society.

The RCA-led collaboration delivers an integrated design-led innovation and entrepreneurship programmes for MSc, Masters of Engineering students and MBA at Imperial College London, as well as for the MA students at the Royal College of Art. It offers executive education programmes for industry and the public sector and helps its students and recent alumni transform their creativity into new business ventures through the RCA's Business Incubator, which is supported by NESTA - the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.
